Mr. Virgil Cox's Obituary
Mr. Virgil Cox of Rome, GA, formerly of Lakeland, FL, passed away from this life and to his eternal home with the Lord on December 3, 2023.
He was born in Grundy, Virginia to the late Otis and Matilda Cox as one of eight children. He was of the Christian faith and was called to share the Love of God and blessings of Christ as a Baptist Pastor. He served faithfully in this capacity for years. Alongside his calling, Virgil had a career with the U.S. Army as a Materials Classifier, after his active service as a paratrooper. In his retirement, he found joy in service as a crossing guard in the Lakeland area for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Until his passing, Virgil was a member of Liberty View Baptist Church in Silver Creek, Georgia.
He married the love of his life and Godly partner, Patricia J. Cox. She was a homemaker and mother. Their marriage flourished for fifty-six years until her passing in 2008.
Virgil found and served God in many capacities. It is certain some of his closest were in his spare time, hunting a fishing. When able, he could be found fishing in local spots such as Saddle Creek and Foxwood Estates.
In addition to his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia J. Cox; daughter, Ella D. Hudler; three brothers, three of his sisters; and son-in-law, Donald Belcher.
Survivors include his daughters, Wanda J. Belcher, Donna A. Griffith (Gary); sister, Geraldine Kinder; son-in-law Wayne Hudler; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service to honor the life of Virgil and celebrate his everlasting life with Jesus will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Southside Chapel with a visiting hour from 11:00 AM until service time. A committal service will immediately follow at Oak Hill Burial Park. Lakeland.
