Steven E. Bellamy's Obituary
LAKELAND- Steven E. Bellamy (Steve) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 3rd, 2018 due to heart failure. He is survived by his wife Jan Bellamy, his mother Barbara Bellamy-Logie, his sister Dusty Sawyer (Jim), his brother Roger Bellamy, his two sons Jacob Bellamy (Kristen), Philip Bellamy (Meg), and his two grandchildren Grayson and Kinsley Bellamy. He is preceded in death by his father Eustas Bellamy (d.1991).
Steve was born in St. Petersburg, FL and attended Robinson High School in Tampa, Mars Hill College in Asheville, NC, and USF in Tampa.
Drafted into the US Army in 1969, Steve dutifully served his country in the 101st airborne in Vietnam. Upon returning home, Steve served as Youth Minister at Davis Island Community Church in Tampa. While attending Christian Associates Seminary in Newberry Park, CA, he met his wife, Jan. He had a huge impact for the Lord for over 40 years as a Youth Pastor in the 70's and 80’s and as a Juvenile Rehabilitation Coordinator in the 90’s.
He owned and operated a Team Building Challenge Ropes Course in S. Lakeland working with businesses, schools, and ministries. As an avid outdoorsman, Steve guided hunting and archery events for many groups. He developed kayaking camps, lead college mission teams and facilitated numerous ministry projects for both students and adults as a leadership coach. He lead over 30 mission teams to dozens of countries in building local churches. He worked at the Boys Ranch Orphanage and was on the board of directors and worked as the Men’s Program Director at Lighthouse Ministries. As a lifelong entrepreneur, Steve opened Dossey Creek Archery Center in 2013 and enjoyed teaching children the art of archery and hosting tournaments and barbecues.
Steve had a full life serving the Lord and mentoring many people of all ages. He was ready to see Jesus and enjoy his heavenly reward.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, January 7 at 2:30pm at Highland Park Church (4777 Lakeland Highlands Rd. Lakeland FL, 33813).
In lieu of flowers, Steve requested donations to help with the hurricane damage of a church in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, where he led multiple mission trips to help build the church. Donations can be made out and sent to Highland Park Church with, "Steve Bellamy" in the memo line.
