I was a foreign student at USF in 1980's and worked at Sun Dome as an HVAC student for Lenny. He was like a father to me and called me "my foreign son"
One midnight, after an Elton John concert, I brought in a crew to clean up the Dome. It was so messy the crew left me at 4 am. I was so scared of Lenny I started cleaning the place up by my lonesome self. Lenny came in at 7 am with a coffee in one hand and cigarette in another. Saw me on the 3rd floor picking up garbage. Called me down, gave me hug and told me to go home and rest ... a true gentle giant
When I graduated with a bachelors in Computer Science, I was so unsure of myself to move on that I continued working there for minimum wage $3.75 an hour! So he invited me to his home in Lakeland for a 4th of July party in 1987 and said to me "son, you deserve better. It's time for you to leave Sun Dome or I'll kick your a$$" ... so I left, got me a real job and eventually moved to Boston 30 years ago and have been a successful computer engineer and a project manager ever since because of that advice
I had meant to come back to Tampa, find him and give him a big hug. Alas life got in the way... but I know he's up there lightening up the Heavens with his smiles
Love you Lenny and happy trails until we meet again under another Dome...
-Albrik (your foreign son)
