Jim Vogel's Obituary
Jim Vogel, 77, passed away in Gainesville, Georgia on August 9, 2024. Born in Woodbury, New Jersey on July 25, 1947, Jim was one of five sons born to the late James F. Vogel Sr. and Catherine Vogel Hallstead.
Jim’s passion for building began to flourish very early in his life. Starting at just four years old, Jim was taking apart the family’s swing set, building forts, and removing windows from the backyard shed…using his father’s tools without permission!
Jim’s love for building things continued throughout his teen years, including climbing iron on multi-story buildings. By the time he was a young adult, he had accomplished an impressive career in construction. Over the years, he led many construction projects along the east coast of the US over the years, including Lakeland Power Plant, Space Shuttle’s payload, Walt Disney World, and Mars M&M plant. Jim was also instrumental in the steel work erection at Carpenter’s Home Church in Lakeland. He built 5 custom homes for his family and designed homes for several family friends.
Jim loved the Lord and led many coworkers to become Christians. He taught Sunday School for middle school boys and was a Deacon at Northside Baptist Church in Plant City, where he also served on the prison ministry team. He was a devoted member of Victory Church in Lakeland, through which he dutifully attended a total of 6 mission trips.
Jim loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed family vacations to the smoky mountains and Walt Disney World. The holidays were always celebrated with large family gatherings and plenty of food to feed a small army. Although there were limited times of public displays of affection, there was no doubt Jim loved his wife and family.
Jim is preceded in death by his mother and father, James F. Vogel Sr. and Catherine Vogel Hallstead.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy Vogel; daughter Lisa Marie Carter and her husband Richie and their daughter Reanna; daughter Kelley Lynne Blackburn and her husband Tim and their children Talor (Beau) Mears, Grant Blackburn, and Chloe (Jon David) Falk; daughter Lorrie Jean Meade and her husband Will and their children Skyler Vogel, Isabella Avendano, Ian Avendano, Emilise Avendano, Juliana Avendano, Lauren Avendano, and Ava Meade; brothers Michael Vogel, David (Karen) Vogel and their daughter Caiti Vogel, Mark Vogel, Brian Vogel; and 6 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life to honor Jim will be held at Victory Church, Light of Lights Chapel, on Saturday, August 17th. Visitation to be held from 10:00-11:00 AM, with service to follow at 11:00 AM. The service will be streamed at victorylakeland.online.church
