James M. Johnson Jr.'s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of JJ Johnson, age 48, who went to be with Jesus, peacefully in his sleep. JJ was a man of deep faith, unwavering love, and quiet strength whose life touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
JJ loved God above all and lived his life as a reflection of his faith—humble, compassionate, and full of grace. He was a devoted husband and a selfless, loving father who always put his family first. His greatest joy came from being present for his family, guiding them, supporting them, and loving them unconditionally.
Known for his honesty and kindness, JJ was truly one of the most genuine souls. He had a way of making others feel seen, valued, and cared for. Whether through a simple conversation or a helping hand, he consistently put others before himself.
JJ had a lifelong passion for sports. A gifted athlete, he competed as an NCAA Division I decathlete and graduated from Liberty University. His dedication, discipline, and competitive spirit carried into every part of his life, inspiring those around him.
JJ is survived by his loving wife, Wendi Johnson; his daughter Aubrey Johnson (23) , son Blake Johnson (19); and daughter, Presley Johnson (15). He is also survived by his father, James Johnson, Sr.; his sister, Mkinia Reese; and many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 18, 2026, at 2014 Beacon By Way, Lakeland, Florida 33803.
In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe has been established in honor of JJ’s children.
While his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his legacy of love, faith, and integrity will live on through his family and all who knew him. JJ will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
