Gary Patterson Sr. 's Obituary
Father, Husband, Railroad Engineer.
Gary “Pop” Arnold Patterson Sr. was born in Mt. Morris, PA February 6, 1942. He spent his early life living in Kensington, MD and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1961. Soon afterwards he met, and fell in love with, Judy Ann Watson. They were married June 22, 1963. In December of 1964 they had their first child, Yvonne Annette, followed by Gary Arnold in August of 1969. The following December they moved to Hillside Farm in Bowie, MD. There Gary developed his love of animals and woodworking. In October of 1977 they had their final child, William Guy. Many of Gary's favorite stories were of events that took place on the farm. He began working on the signal gang for the B&O railroad in 1979 and quickly moved up to become an engineer. In the summer of 1984 they sold the farm and moved to Mt Airy, MD. Then, in the summer of 1988, they moved to Seffner, FL where they lived for 11 years. Finally moving to Lakeland, FL in 1999. He retired from CSX Railroad with nearly 30 years of service in 2007. He spent his final years doing what he loved, wood working, and traveling in the Winnebago. He passed away on the evening of Tuesday October 17, 2017 with his loving wife of 54 years by his side.
Gary is proceed in death by his parents, Francis “Pat” Guy Patterson and Myrtle “Nanny” Ruth Patterson (Headlee) and sister, Patricia “Patty” Ann Patterson. Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy Ann Patterson (Watson) of Florida, married June 22, 1963; daughter: Yvonne O’Brien; sons, Gary Arnold Patterson II and William Guy Patterson, from Maryland; sister Katharine “Carol” Kricbel, Arizona; grandchildren, Judy Anne O’Brien, Delaney Lee, Garrett Logan, Spencer William, Anthony Joseph “AJ” and William Flynn Patterson, of Maryland; and nieces, Christine “Chris” Joanne DeCristofaro and Cynthia “Cindy” Justine Vaughn, of Washington. A graveside service will be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mount Morris, Pennsylvania at 1pm 11/18/2017 A luncheon Celebrating of his life will at 2pm, held at Mount Morris United Methodist Church.
