Rebecca and David: Your father, Earl B. K. Rahrer, was my closest friend from entering Noble Street Elementary School (Anniston, Alabama) through graduating from high school. The Rahrer family (parents Francis William Rahrer, Sr. and Eula Mae Hensley Rahrer and children Frances, Billy, Peggy, and Earl) lived just down the road (Jacksonville Highway) from my home. We often exchanged sleeping quarters, and Earl stayed with us for a while after his parents moved away. Earl and I attended a radio school (sponsored by the now Auburn University) together, and worked together at station WHMA both before and after WWII service. We also installed and maintained radio communications equipment for a transportation firm in Anniston. In 1946, we were driving to Lakeland to play golf and both went to sleep - destroying the car but with only minor injuries to us. After Earl moved to Lakeland and marred, we seldom saw one another. I'm very sorry that we didn't keep in close touch. Regards, Raymond Coke Watson, Jr. ([email protected], 256-651-1834.)
