Corey James Edmundson's Obituary
COREY JAMES EDMUNDSON
Corey was born in San Gabriel, California to John and Charline Edmundson. He grew up in Glendora, graduating from Glendora High School and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Academy. Corey worked in many fields including construction, advertising, computer sales, and a stint as a tire specialist for NASCAR driver David Gilliland. He loved basketball, auto racing, and rock crawling in the California desert.
Following the tragic deaths of his older brother and mother, Corey took a leap of faith and left California for Naples, Florida in 2004. He owned and operated the Naples Boat Club and found great comfort in living and working by the ocean. He later relocated to Singer Island and met his wife, Jessica, whom he married in Palm Beach in 2013. After moving to Lakeland in 2015, they joined St. Paul Lutheran Church. Corey worked at the Polk County Sheriff's Office, where he was awarded Civilian Employee of the Year in 2018. He also received a commendation and lifesaving medal from Sheriff Grady Judd for his rescue of a young mother and her two children.
Corey treasured his roles as a dedicated and patient father and husband. He took his responsibilities as the family's Christian leader and chief encourager seriously. He delighted in his children and counted the hours until he could pick them up in his much-loved custom van each school day. Corey's sense of humor and affable nature will be greatly missed. He remained bravely devoted to his family even while fighting an aggressive and painful cancer.
Corey was predeceased by his brother, John, and his beloved mother, Charline. He is survived by his wife, Jessica, and their children in Lakeland, Florida, his father, John, a beloved nephew, niece, and grandniece in California, aunts and cousins in Oklahoma, and many longtime friends across the country.
