Will Smith was a lot of different people rolled into a fine package of a man. Will was a son, a father, a husband, a brother, a cousin, a friend, and so much more to many a folk. I can only speak for myself and when I say, I was proud to have called Will my friend. I first met Will in 1998 in Lake Charles, LA of all places but with Will it was a happy place that we enjoyed. Will and myself had a great time wherever we ended up at, and there were many we discovered in that neck of the woods. Will could take a bad situation and turn it into fun despite the circumstances, he was very talented within that realm of expertise. I can honestly say when Will was involved there was never a dull moment as those that knew him would surely agree. Our 2 years together there flew by as time often does when you enjoy yourself. Then I went on my way and he his way but a bond was forged from then on. It was many years later I ran into Will again, 2013 to be exact, and he was still the same Will, head strong, funny, and well, just Will. We ended up going different directions again as we often do, and that I'm sorry to say, was the last time I saw Will in person. We kept in touch via Facebook and an occasional phone call after that, the most recent being this past March and we were planning a sailing trip on my boat this fall. The rest of the story y'all know. I regret that trip never happened as I can assure you it would have been enjoyed by all, however I realize Will is on a more adventurous trip than I can even imagine yet. One day when the time comes, he and I will meet again and what a fine day that will be. Until then, Will forged ahead and is discovering paths that are full of wonderment and delight and leads the way. I will sorely miss his deep southern accent, his hearty laughter and amazing wit. I can close my eyes and see him smiling now, Godspeed Will see you on the next adventure. Your friend Winston.
