William Steven Gibson's Obituary
William Steven Gibson, 92, passed away in Lakeland on Thursday, October 12, 2023. Bill was born in Kentucky on June 29, 1931, to parents Dewey and Maude (Shupe) Gibson.
In 1950, he entered the US Navy and served during the Korean War before being honorably discharged in 1954.
In May 2023, Bill and his wife Patricia celebrated 50 years of marriage. The couple married in New York prior to moving to Arizona, before settling in Lakeland in 1995.
Bill had a wonderful sense of humor and a vibrant personality that lit up the room. He never knew a stranger and could chat it up with anyone. He loved waking up at 4AM every Saturday and Sunday and going to the local flea markets just to sit around and chat with the vendors while they set up and ran business.
He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing, and loved to tinker on anything and everything, from clocks to boat motors.
Bill was incredibly thoughtful and quite the gifter. He was always listening, and if he overhead anyone commenting on wanting something, it was very much like him to show up the next day with ten of those things.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Hanford Gibson, Bernice, and Bobby Lee Gibson.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Gibson; son William Clark Gibson (Karen); daughter Karen Lee Maider; grandchildren Jessica Lee Horton (Jerry), Ryan J. Maider, Amanda L. Gibson, William Steven Gibson, and Jordyn E. Gibson; great-grandchildren Juliette C. Gibson, Amelia A. Horton, and Lilah C. Horton; and niece Terry Lettau.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 20, 2023 from 1:00-2:00 PM, with funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM, at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Serenity Gardens Chapel, 3350 Mall Hill Drive.
