Volker Heigelmann's Obituary
Volker “Doc” Heigelmann passed away, peacefully, with his wife, Georgia and
daughter, Melissa by his side on Thursday evening, February 20, 2020 after a
brave 6-year battle with cancer. Volker was born on September 27, 1956
in Itzehoe, Germany. He was a skilled newspaper printer for 34 years who
specialized in the four-color processing technique. As the newspaper industry
changed, Volker continued his education and became a personal banker.
Volker had a passion for music composition, was an “indie” musician who
played keyboard, sang vocals, and enjoyed performing. He was a member
of the church choir for many years. Volker also enjoyed gardening with his
father-in-law, and they perfected propagating various plants and trees. He
enjoyed serving as a softball umpire for his daughter, Melissa’s, team and
played basketball in a men’s league. Volker’s strong family ties and dedication
were evident through the personal care he extended to his father and mother
in law in their later years. He was a beloved role model for his grandchildren.
Volker was also a dedicated pet owner and he will be missed by his companion,
Taz and newcomer, Blu. Volker was preceded in death by his mother, Gisela and
his brother Michael. He is survived by his wife, Georgia (Vogel); daughter, Melissa
(Gregory)McRoberts and her children, Connor, Nathan, Leland and Cameron;
daughter, Jennifer (Bernard) Riley and her children, Alena and Aiden; his father,
Wolfgang and his brother Norman (Eileen); and a number of nieces and nephews.
Material donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice House in Lakeland,
Florida. A memorial service to celebrate his coming home will be held in St. Augustine,
Florida at a later date.
