Victor R. Herring's Obituary
VICTOR R. HERRING, 85
LAKELAND - Victor R. Herring passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2015. He was born on Sept. 12, 1929, in Texas to Victor and Beulah Herring (Arnold). Vic is preceded in death by his parents and only sibling, a sister, Yvonne March (Herring). Vic is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Patsy (Patricia Ruth Hollingsworth), and is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Samantha Weber (Herring) of Wilmette, IL, her husband Jack Weber, Jr. and their daughters, whom he adored, Grayson Victoria and Addison Jaye. Also by his sister's three children, Marthann, Jenna, and Dana; his Aunt Peggy (Jim) Channell (Arnold); his sisters-in-law Neola Cleveland (Hollings-worth), Rebecca Harrell (Hollingsworth), and Johnnie Faye Hollings-worth (Allen), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science from Texas Tech University. In his early life Vic farmed cotton and soybeans with his father in Terry County, Texas. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army Reserves with 27 years of service. Vic was employed by Occidental Petroleum in Houston, Texas, and later retired from Imcera, Inc. after 17 years. Belonging to the Citrus Center Kiwanis was a source of great joy to Vic. Vic's passions included travel, playing golf, bridge, and poker. He was an avid reader and greatly enjoyed seeing any and all movies. Vic was proud to hold his private pilot's license and he and Patsy enjoyed flying to many scenic places. He did not enjoy dancing and upon taking disco dance lessons, at Patsy's urging, he commented that he enjoyed it as much as gum surgery. Vic was always an active member in his and Patsy's church communities wherever they lived. Upon moving to Lakeland he was deeply involved with Shepherd Road Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder and leading the Compassion Team with Patsy. At the time of his passing, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland, FL.
A heartfelt thanks to all of those at Highland Lakes Center who tirelessly cared for him in recent years. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland, FL, 175 Lake Hollingsworth Dr., Lakeland, FL, 33801. -
