Timothy M. Shields' Obituary
Timothy Marcus Shields went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 4, 2022 at the age of 68.
Tim was born on November 28,1953 in Avon Park, Florida where he lived until 1970. His family moved to Lakeland when he was a senior; graduating from Lakeland High School in 1971. Tim attended Southeastern University where he made lifelong friends and played basketball and baseball. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1984 and began his career teaching for Polk County Schools. He taught history for 32 years, 22 of them at George Jenkins High School. Tim influenced many students and wanted them to love and appreciate history as much as he did. While at George Jenkins, he also served as athletic business manager for several years and coached swimming and baseball. Baseball was his passion. He admired the players and loved the game so much that he continued being a part of the coaching team after retirement; coaching a grand total of 29 years.
Tim was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt, bicycle, camp and travel. His creativity and love for photography captured many stunning views of his travels around the United States, Canada and Israel. He was well known for his love of fishing and often showed off pictures of his latest catch. TIm was adventurous and lived life to the fullest doing the things he loved most.
TIm was a member of Lakes Church where he was a deacon and served as an adult Sunday School teacher. He cared deeply about spending time with family, friends and enjoying the beauty of God’s creation. Tim lived a good life and will be greatly missed by many.
Tim is survived by his loving wife, Jan of 39 years, his son Brian, sister Judy Bucksot (Ron), his nieces Kelli Valler (Michael) Lara O’Fallon (Paul) Carla Budinsky (Bob) and many other cousins, nieces and nephews who loved and respected him dearly.
Tim is preceded in death by his father, Hubert and mother, Irene; sister, Peggy and her children Marty and Michael O’Grady.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Lakes Church, 1010 East Memorial Boulevard, Lakeland. Visitation starts at 10:00 with the service at 11:00.
