Sharon Duane (Bruce) Hazen, 58
Lakeland - Sharon Duane (Bruce) Hazen passed away on December 24, 2016 after a long struggle with cancer. She was born on August 12, 1958 in Somerset, Bermuda, to Emeline (Taylor) and Wallace D. Bruce. Sharon grew up in San Diego, California and in Chesapeake, Virginia where she participated for many years in competitive roller skating and graduated from Great Bridge High School as well as attending Tidewater Community College. After that, she lived in Connecticut for nearly 40 years where she worked in retail sales and then served as an inventory specialist for RGIS. Sharon and her husband Michael relocated to Lakeland, FL in January 2016. She was an avid golfer as well as enjoying home decorating.
Sharon is predeceased by her father Wallace D. Bruce, her brother Hubert “Gib” Woodward, and her father-in-law Kenneth L. Hazen. She is survived by husband Michael P. Hazen; sons, Michael Jason Hazen (Hartford, CT) and Bryan (Rebecca) Duane Hazen (Nashua, NH); mother Emeline T. Bruce (Lakeland); three granddaughters, Natalya Davis, Gabrielle Hazen and Alexis Hazen (Hartford, CT); step-daughter, Melissa Anne Hazen (Enfield, CT); her “special Sis” Terri Woodward; cousins, Sandra (Doug) Keller, Lynn (Steve) Sistrunk, Wayne (Joan) Martin, Larry (Lois) Martin and Bobby Richter; mother-in-law, Gloria Hazen; sisters-in-law, Laura (Gerald) Holcomb and Susan (Clifford) Tweeddale and brothers-in-law, Matthew (Debbie) Hazen and Randy (Sharon) Hazen; and her golf friends at Airways Country Club.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 7th at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home at Serenity Gardens in Lakeland, FL, with a reception to follow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Watson Clinic Cancer and Research Center 1730 Lakeland Hills Blvd., Lakeland, FL 33805.
