LAKELAND - Robert M. Nelson, 88, passed away on September 6, 2014, at his home, due to cancer.
He was born in Danville, Illinois, on February 17, 1926. He has lived in Lakeland for 33 years. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in the 321st Bomb Sq; 90 Bombardment GP. He worked as an elementary school principal and enjoyed remote control model airplane building and flying.
Robert was preceded in death by his son, Larry Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Anna Nelson; daughters, Donna Hannakamp of Twin Lakes, WI, Yolanda Nelson of Denver, CO; sons, Ken Nelson of San Jose, CA, Clifford Nelson of Des Plaines, IL; step daughters, Kay Garrison of Lakeland, FL, Patti Simerl of Memphis, MO, Daisy Murphy of Memphis, MO; granddaughters, Amber Young of Burlington, WI, Cassandra Craig of Indianapolis, IN, and grandson, Anthony Nelson of Des Plaines, IL.
