Robert W. Mayes
FME – Heavy Machinery Mechanic
Lakeland – Robert W. Mayes, 69, passed away on May 30, 2014, at Good Shepherd Hospice from his battle with cancer.
Born in Punxautawney, PA in 1944, he moved to Lakeland in 1986 where he worked as a heavy machinery mechanic and retired from FME. After retiring, he took up gardening and created a beautiful landscape paradise where many have gathered to enjoy its beauty. His other love was golf. He enjoyed playing with his buddies at Cleveland Heights Golf Course. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Mayes; sons, John and Michael Mayes; daughters, Lynn Tanner and Melissa Pittman; stepsons, Ricky Anderson and Chip Johnston; stepdaughters, Lynn Cranor and Joie Johnston; sister, Mary Ellen Stahlman; brother, Mervin Mayes; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted Thurs. at 6 PM at Gentry Morrison Funeral Home at Serenity Gardens, 3350 Mall Hill Dr. Lakeland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice.
