Robert "Bobby" Harmon Shiver's Obituary
Robert (Bobby) Harmon Shiver died peacefully at home with his family on October 25, 2024, in Wesley Chapel, Florida.
He was born in 1939 in Lakeland, Florida, to Ida Belle Shiver & Miles Harmon Shiver. He spent his childhood in Lakeland, Florida, and graduated from Lakeland High School in 1957. Bobby spent his time playing baseball and basketball. At twelve years old, he was a Little League All-American. He was the captain of the Lakeland Dreadnaughts State Championship of 1957. He received his B.A. from the University of Florida and was the captain of the 1961 basketball team. He married the love of his life, Suzanne Mentzer, in 1961. Bobby coached basketball and taught Drivers Ed and P.E. at Hillsborough High School. Bobby was the assistant coach to Coach Williams and helped to establish the USF basketball program in 1969. In 1974, Bobby became the manager and Golf Pro at the USF Golf Course and coached the USF golf team until his retirement. Bobby and Suzanne gave their hearts to the Lord and were members of the First Presbyterian Church in Temple Terrace. They later attended Life Church in Wesley Chapel from 2002 to the present.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Floyd Shiver, and his sisters, Sadie Entrekin and Gladys Hess. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne. Sons, Robert Dustin, Michael Miles, and his wife, Angela. His Grandchildren, Sharon Shiver, Miles Shiver, and Sara & Luis Vicens.
Family and Friends are welcome to join the Celebration of Life service at Life Church Family Ministries Building, 6224 Old Pasco Road, Wesley Chapel, Florida, on Saturday, November 9, at 2 pm.
