Lakeland - Rick Gandy, 61, passed away at Bartow Regional Medical Center from heart failure on Oct. 31, 2014.
Rick was born in Lakeland on Oct. 26, 1953, and remained a lifelong resident of the area. He began his career in funeral service at age 16 with Dukes Steen Funeral Home, where he later became the owner of the funeral home. In 2005, Rick retired and sold the funeral home to Gentry Morrison Funeral Homes, where he continued to serve the community on a part time basis. He was a member of the Corinthian Lodge #191 in Mulberry, Egypt Shrine Temple and affiliated bodies, was a Past Patron of the Mulberry Chapter 57 OES, and a member of the Florida Funeral Directors Association.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Richard A. Gandy; grandparents, Lear and James Godwin, Lilly and Britt Gandy. He is survived by his mother, Elsie Entzminger of Lakeland; sister, Brenda Owen of Ellenton, FL; aunt and uncle, Mary and Lawrence Pigg of Lakeland, and aunt, Mary Peters of Lakeland.
Visitation will be Mon. from 5-8 p.m. at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Serenity Gardens Chapel, 3350 Mall Hill Dr. Lakeland. Funeral services will be Tues. at 10 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, with interment to follow at Oak Hill Burial Park.
