Richard Joseph Orlowski's Obituary
Richard J. Orlowski, 94, passed away on February 26, 2020 in Lakeland.
Born on June 9, 1925 to parents Michael & Katherine in Hamtramack, Michigan, Richard lived in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
Richard entered the US Marine Corp on August 14, 1942 in the 1st Marine Division. He served in Guadacanal and is a purple heart recipient, among many other awards.
After being honorably discharged from the Marines on December 22, 1945, Richard returned home to Michigan and opened his own store with his brother, “Apache Auto” parts. Later in life he became a bricklayer and cement mason.
Richard married Frances Poterek-Orlowski on November 21, 1948. They were married for 63 years at the time of her passing in 2011.
In his retirement, Richard enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working on cars, especially his blue Dodge Caravan, which he still has.
Richard loved God, his country, and his family.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances, brother Steven James Michael, and daughter Carolyn Sue Orlowski.
He leaves behind 3 children - Charlotte Grace, Richard V. Orlowski, and Kathryn Orlowski Pence; 8 Grandchildren – April, Julie, Richard, Ronnie, Anna, Michael, Erica, and Rachel; 12 Great-Grandchildren – Brittany, Brandon, Jordan, Christian, Maranda, Haley, Megan, Tucker, and Amelia, Josh, Christian and Dominic; and 1 Great-Great Grandchild – Brielle.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 7, from 10-11am at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Serenity Gardens Chapel, with a funeral service to follow at 11am.
A viewing will also be held in Rochester, Michigan on Tuesday, March 10 from 10-11:00am, with a service to follow at 11am, at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Dr. Rochester, Michigan 48307
Richard will be laid to rest in Christian Memorial Cemetery, 521 E. Hamlin Rd. Rochester Hills, Michigan 48307.
