Lakeland – Richard “Dick” Ross Beale, 86, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018, due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease. Dick was born in Keyser, WV, to parents Vernon Lee Beale Sr. and Wilda (Liller) Beale. He was preceded in death by sisters Greta Beale, Verna Miller and brother Vernon Lee Beale Jr.
Dick graduated from Allegany High School in Cumberland, MD in 1950, then enlisted with the U.S. Air Force. While stationed at MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL, he traveled to Lakeland, dated and married former Allegany classmate Sylvia Delores Miller in February of 1954. After being honorably discharged in June of 1954, they returned to Cumberland where Dick worked for Kelly-Springfield Tire until layoffs occurred. With first-born daughter Vicki, they returned to Lakeland in 1955, where Dick worked for the Lakeland Police Department until retiring in 1982. Dick then worked for Publix until Sylvia retired from General Telephone in 1987. Dick was a member of Parkview Baptist Church.
Dick is survived by loving wife Sylvia (Miller) Beale, daughter Vicki Beale Ogg (Tom) and son Rick Beale, all of Lakeland. Grandchildren Sharon Ogg Gelsinger (Rob) and David William Ogg (Jen), and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law Sharon Miller of Lakeland. A very special thanks to Dick’s many caregivers and Team Rose of Good Shepherd Hospice.
Visitation will be Tues. from 10-11 am at Gentry Morrison Southside Chapel, followed by an 11 am service at the funeral home chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 3470 Lakeland Hills Blvd. Lakeland, FL 33805
