Norman T Barnett's Obituary
Norman Timothy Barnett (Tim), aged 58, died unexpectedly on November 22, 2022. He is
survived by his daughter, Kasy Skinner (Barnett), his grandson, Branson Timothy Wootton, 2
older brothers, Aaron Barnett and Guy O. Barnett, Jr., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in Dickson, TN. Norman’s family moved to Waverly, TN in 1971. His mother, Shirley A.
Barnett was a homemaker and his father, Guy O. Barnett, Sr. who served as Chief of Police for
Waverly, TN was killed in the line of duty in 1978. Tim was always so proud of his father. He
would visit the memorial site often – even taking his grandson, Branson a few times.
Tim graduated from Waverly Central High School in 1982 in Wavely, TN. One of Tim’s proudest
moments came with the birth of his daughter, Kasy. This poignant moment was
repeated in 2006, with the birth of his grandson, Branson.
In 1985, he moved to Lakeland, Florida shortly after that Tim began his career with CSX
Railroad where he later retired. During his tenure at CSX he served his fellow
employees as their union steward and was instrumental in steering his
membership through their professional challenges and in championing their
contracted rights. His knowledge and experience are sorely missed.
Tim later became known as “Coach Paw-Paw” to many as he was his grandson, Branson’s
baseball coach for many years to follow. It really was his greatest joy in life!
Tim was a devoted father and the best Papa! The highlight of his day was watching Tennessee
Vols play football. He didn’t care, win, or lose, he was watching. Tim always had a gift for music;
he would be able to tell you the name of the band and the album it was on whenever he heard a
song. He had a vast collection of albums and 8-tracks. Tim always found peace visiting the
Smoky Mountains and making memories.
Tim was a loving father and grandfather, a great brother and a wonderful uncle.
From the time he arrived in 1964 until his death in 2022, he was a joy to our family
that cannot be replaced. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know
him and his everlasting smile.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for December 8th, 2022, beginning at 2p.m. until 4p.m. at
Gentry-Morrison on Bartow Highway in Lakeland, Fl.
