Miles Watson's Obituary
Miles Stuart Watson was born January 17, 1950 in Miami, Florida to George and Laura Watson.
Miles went home to be with the Lord May 31, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Gail, whom he married April 16, 1988, one daughter, Tracey Watson and one son Jason Merrill, brother George Watson (Dorothy) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Laura Watson.
Miles was raised in Miami, Florida. He attended North Miami Senior High, Miami Junior College, and Dade County Public Safety Academy. There was never a time in his life that he didn’t want to be in law enforcement, so in 1971, he followed that dream and became a police officer at Metro Dade Police department until he retired in 1982. Moved to Polk County and worked for the Polk County Sherriff’s Department for about a year. Started working at Lakeland Police Department in 1983 until he retired in 2003. Miles was a devoted and loving husband and father. His favorite past times were camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Southside Assembly of God and currently attended Fuel Church in Lakeland. He was a dedicated member of Kairos Prison Ministries. Most of all, Miles was an amazing man of God who put others before himself, unless there was food involved at a family get together, and then it was survival of the fittest. His love for god was second to none. He served God and others with honesty, integrity and a humble spirit. He had a way of making everyone feel welcomed and loved. If you knew Miles, and you asked him how he was, he would always tell you “blessed”. The world Miles impacted will never be the same without his presence. Miles, you are loved by all and will forever be missed.
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the almighty.” Psalm 91:1
