Mildred Amanda Law Ellis' Obituary
Mildred Amanda Law Ellis, age 100, of Hopewell, Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.
She was born on October 28, 1922, in Suwannee County, Florida, and was married on October 9, 1941 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Rev. Henry B. Ellis. Mildred and Henry were true partners, both in marriage and in ministry. They were pastors of Churches of God in North Carolina, Alabama, Texas, Ohio, Virginia and Florida. As a pastor's wife, she faithfully served in prayer ministries, visitation, teaching, Children's & Women's ministries.
Mildred was also very involved in Christian School ministries. In 1968, she started one of the first Christian schools in the Church of God and served as Director of the Parkview Christian School & Daycare in Newport News, Virginia and later the Westwood Hills Christian School in Gainesville, Florida. Mildred and Henry worked together as consultants in several states, assisting other churches in establishing Christian schools and daycares. In 2015, the Henry B. and Mildred Ellis Endowed Scholarship was established at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee to assist students who are preparing for a life in the classroom.
After retirement, Mildred relocated to Cleveland, TN where she lived for thirty-two years and was a member of the Westmore Church of God. In 2020 she moved to Hopewell, VA and transferred her membership to Commonwealth Christian Community in Crozet, Virginia. In 2021, she was admitted to long-term care at Autumn Care of Mechanicsville, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlie Leland Law and Urie McCormick Law, her husband, Henry Benson Ellis, her daughter, Lawana Faye Ellis Deamell, a grandson, Jeffrey Monroe Ellis, a great-grandchild, Margaret Louise Hollifield, three sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by a sister, Ella Marie McCormick Jamison of East Wenatchee, Washington, - two sons, Donald Eugene (Juanita) Ellis of Cleveland, Tennessee, and Edwin Michael (Wynell) Ellis of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, --one daughter, Mary Annette Ellis (Charles) Hollifield of Hopewell, Virginia, --nine grandchildren, Bruce (Robin) Ellis of Charles City, VA, Hope (Sean) Zeis of Williamsburg, VA, Jaina (Van) Spencer of Black Lick, OH, Alisa (Kyle) Triplett of Seminole, FL, Alana (Mark) Fulmer of Newnan, GA, Gina (Braton) Voraritskul of Sugar Land, TX, Joy Ellis of Falls Church, VA, Paul (Anne) Hollifield of Crozet, VA and Stephen (Cheryl) Hollifield of Richmond, VA, --eighteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Gentry-Morrison Southside Chapel in Lakeland, Florida. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Gardens.
