Rev. Michael Wayne Mallatt, 64
Lakeland – Rev. Mike Mallatt went home to be with The Lord on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. He was born in Seville, Spain and moved to Lakeland in 1969. Mike was a veteran of the US Air Force.
Mike graduated from Kathleen High School in 1972, and after 4 years in the US Air Force he worked for the City of Lakeland as a Power Linemen for 6 years. He surrendered to the Gospel Ministry in 1983. Mike attended Mid America Seminary where he graduated with a degree in Theology. He completed his degree while at his first pastorate Darlove Baptist Church in Darlove, MS. After returning to Lakeland, FL he pastored Westside Baptist Church from 1986 to 1989. In 1990, Mike was called to Griffin Baptist Church, serving for six years. He then pastored Faith Baptist Church of Lakeland for the next 20 years, until retiring January 31, 2019. During his years of ministry, he served for three years as Moderator of the South Florida Baptist Association. Mike volunteered as a Chaplain for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for the last 12 years.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Dorothy Mallatt. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sandy; daughters, Rachel (David) King, Cora (Ervin) Gay; sister, Francisca Spencer of Plant City; grandchildren, Virgil Conner, Cody King, Marissa King, Randin King, Dylan Gay, Aiden Gay, Audrey Merritt and great grandchild, Keona Conner.
Visitation with the family will be Monday, March 25, 2019 from 5:00 – 6:00pm at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. The memorial service will begin at 6:00. Inurnment will take place at Mt. Tabor Cemetery at a later date.
