Matthew Jon Wilt's Obituary
Matthew Jon Wilt, age 62, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away on September 13, 2025.
Born on October 23, 1962, Matthew was the beloved son of Roy and Nadine Wilt, who preceded him in death. A lifelong resident of Lakeland, he dedicated his life to serving others, working as a firefighter with the Polk County Fire Department from 1983 until his retirement in 2012. His bravery, commitment, and compassion left a lasting impact on the community he so proudly served.
On November 12, 2011, Matthew married the love of his life, Wendy, with whom he shared years of love, laughter, and memories.
Matthew was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Steven Wilt and Jerry Wilt. He is survived by his loving wife, Wendy; his son Lane Wilt and wife Brittany; daughter Tiffany Sturgill and husband Jody; sons Jonathan Sneddon and Cody Sneddon; daughters Krista Roche, Alyssa Sneddon, and Kathy Sneddon; brother Roy Wilt and wife Monica; and his cherished grandchildren, Leo, Aliyah, Trey, Kash, and Madelyn.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with services beginning at 11:00 a.m., at Bethel Baptist Church, 3125 W Socrum Loop Road, Lakeland, FL. Burial will follow at Socrum Cemetery.
Matthew will be remembered for his strong character, generous heart, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he held so dear and in the lives he touched throughout his years of service.
