LAKELAND - Mary Catherine Thomas, 89, of Lakeland, passed away peacefully at home, on March 29, 2014 due to natural causes.
Mary was born in St. Catherine, Ontario, and came to Florida in 1950. She was preaching a revival as a lady evangelist when she met her husband, Pastor W.W. Thomas Sr., and they were married in 1951. They moved to Lakeland in 1956 and built the West Lakeland Church of God, which is now Trinity Life Church of God. She also spent 22 years working for JC Penny, in the retail shoe department. During the past thirty years she faithfully visited and ministered to the elderly in Lakeland. She was preceded in death by her husband W.W. Thomas Sr. in 1997, and is survived by her daughter Janelle Thomas-French and husband Don, and her son Waymon W. Thomas Jr. and his wife Paula; three sisters, Helen Pelissero, Elda Jackson, and Annie Toews and her husband Bruce; two grandchildren Amanda Knox and Jennifer Browning; and her three great grandchildren, Ansley, Abigail and Ava Grace.
Friends are invited to the visitation at Trinity Life Church of God on Friday, April 4 from 10 to 11 am followed by the funeral service at 11 am. Burial will take place in Mayo, Florida on April 5 at 11 am. The family has requested that donations be made to "Alpha Agape Ministries, Inc.", PO Box 120966, Clermont, FL 34712 for missions, the homeless and prison ministry. Arrangements by Gentry-Morrison at Serenity Gardens, Lakeland.
