MARY ELIZABETH WHITFIELD SIMPSON, 86 LAKELAND - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Whitfield Simpson died Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family. Born October 6 1929, in Townville, SC. She was the daughter of the late Ferd Newton and Annie Ruth Whitfield. She was a graduate of Anderson College and Florida Southern. She retired with 15 years of service from the Polk County Schools. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Elizabeth was a devoted wife, loving mother of 8 children and a dedicated teacher. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Dennis Simpson; and brothers, Edward and James Whitfield. Survived by her sons, the Rev. Bruce Simpson (Judy) of Okeechobee, Fl, Rev. Bryan Simpson (Jeanie) of Middleburg, Fl, Brent Simpson (Vicki), Blake Simpson (Stacey) and Brad Simpson, all of Lakeland, FL; daughters, Sandra Baker (Jimmy) of Hull, GA, Suzanne Poole and Charlene Hill (John), both of Lakeland, Fl; 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A visitation will be today (Friday) from 5-7 PM at the Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home at Serenity Gardens (3350 Mall Hill Drive). Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:00 PM at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be Tuesday in South Carolina.
