Mary Elizabeth Frets; 93.
Mary Frets died peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016. A native of Villa Ridge, Illinois, she was born on Jan 10, 1923. A year later, her family moved to Florida, where she was raised in the Lakeland area, attended Winston Elementary, Lakeland Junior High and graduated in 1942 from Lakeland High School.
Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lakeland and of the Ladies Auxiliary of AMVETS, which supports area veterans. She was employed by WT Grants and Montgomery Ward Department Stores as a sales clerk and credit clerk, respectively. She was a master quilter, expert gardener and cook as well as fisherwoman. She loved movies and music and enjoyed impromptu concerts with family and friends. She was an avid traveler and a doting caretaker to her beloved pets. We will miss her greatly.
Mary was preceded in death by her best friend and husband, Charles William Frets, her sister, Margaret Gonzales King, her parents John and Dorothy Timmons Turner and an infant son. She is survived by her son, William Frets, daughter Ann Hager and granddaughter, Elizabeth Hager as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to the staff of Young At Heart ALF and Tidewell Hospice for their excellent guidance and care for Mary. Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home and Lakeland MemorialGardens are handling burial preparations and a grave site memorial will be scheduled for a later date.
