Marty Lee Pettys' Obituary
Marty Lee Pettys, 61, passed away on January 20, 2026, in Lakeland, Florida. He was born on May 2, 1964, in Plant City, Florida, to Maryann (Givens) Pettys and Henry Lee Pettys.
Marty was a proud graduate of Plant City High School and dedicated much of his life to his career in the phosphate industry. He began working for IMC, which later became Mosaic Phosphate, at the Four Corners facility. Over the course of 34 years with Mosaic, Marty built a reputation as a hardworking and dependable employee. He started his career operating the dragline and later became an Electrical Instrumentation worker. A member of the International Chemical Workers Union Council of UFCW Local 35C, Marty took great pride in his work and approached his job with seriousness, integrity, and commitment.
On June 11, 2011, Marty married the love of his life, Iwalani Su‘apaia Pettys, in Hawai‘i. Together they shared a strong and loving bond.
Outside of work, Marty enjoyed following his favorite sports teams, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Tampa Bay Rays, and the Florida State Seminoles. He enjoyed meeting up at Champs with a few of Mosaic's finest retired workers. He was a loyal fan who enjoyed cheering on his teams and sharing that passion with family and friends.
Marty is survived by his beloved wife, Iwalani Su‘apaia Pettys; his children, Hailey (Josh) Pettys of Tallahassee, Liana Renteria of Modesto, CA., Natasha Renteria of Bradley, and Andy Renteria of Guam; and his cherished grandchildren, Jay and Mark Parker, Kaleo Rodriguez, and Kaimana Renteria. He is also survived by his brothers, Chris (Vicky) Pettys of Zephyrhills, and Richard Pettys Sr. of Plant City, and his sister, Dina Carlos of Moon Township, PA., maternal uncles Gerald (Ann) Givens and Huey (Mary) Givens, Aunt Kate Givens Randall (Gibby), Aunt Linda Darlene Pettys Rawls. along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also known as BIGG DAWGG to Belle, Rosie and Buddy to his Furbabies.
Marty will be remembered for his strong work ethic, loyalty to his family, and the quiet pride he carried in all aspects of his life. His legacy lives on in those who loved him for his smile and kind heart.
