Martin (Marty) Rutledge Jr., passed away July 30, 2014 at 6:10am at home after a 9 year battle with colon cancer. Marty was born in Pekin, IL on September 26, 1941.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Elaine Rutledge of Lakeland, FL; his son Brian Christopher (Kathryn) Rutledge of Lakeland, FL and his granddaughter, Stephanie Anne Rutledge.
Marty was employed in the hospitality industry for most of his life. Marty was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Marty was always kind, selfless and compassionate and would “Give the shirt off his back” to help another.
He was a Life Member of the Pekin, IL Moose Lodge #916 and the Moose Legion #201 for 41 years; Life Member of 49 years at the ELK’s Lodge of Lake Wales, FL #1974; 17 Year Member of the Son’s of the American Legion Post #69 of Avon Park, FL.;Golden Eagle Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1869 in Pekin, IL.
There will be a Celebration of Marty’s Life and Friends and Family are welcome. Please come and share your stories with others about how Marty touched your life and lived life to the fullest.
The Memorial will be held on September 13, 2014 at 3:00pm at the Lakeland Elks Lodge #1291, 4529 Harden Blvd., Lakeland, FL. 33813 (863) 644-4332
Donations in Marty’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society & The Florida Elk’s Youth Camp.
