Marlene Quinn's Obituary
LAKELAND- Marlene Quinn, 83 passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016, at Good Shepard Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Marlene was born in Tarentum, PA on May 10, 1933 and moved shortly thereafter to Erie, PA. She spent her formative years in Erie and graduated from Academy High School in 1951. She began her career at the Erie Dry Goods Co. (Boston Store) in Erie. Marlene married James P. Quinn in July of 1957. They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary next month. Shortly after wedding they moved to Bradenton, FL where Jim went to work with the DeSear bother’s in their successful appliance business. Six years later, Jim along with Marlene went into partnership with the DeSear’s and opened 7 appliance store in Central FL, over a 10-year span. During their ownership of DeSear’s, Marlene enjoyed her job as a book-keeper for the Central FL operation. She was passionate about animals and in the beginning years she was active in helping the ASPCA get established and grow in Lakeland. She also enjoyed traveling and had the chance to travel the world with her favorite trip being two weeks in China. Marlene is survived by her husband of 58 years, James P. Quinn; brother, G. Max Shumaker (wife, Sharon); and several aunts, cousin, nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, Dean and Verna Shumaker; sister, Bunny Prideaux; and brother, Lowell Shumaker. Gentry-Morrison is in charge of handling the final arrangements and services will be at a later date. The family request that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to ASPCA.
