Margaret "Nubby" Carlton's Obituary
Margaret (Nubby) Carlton, Age 77 of Lakeland, FL, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, May 13, 2024, with her loving husband and brother by her side. She met the love of her life, Bill, in 1963, at the age of 16. She graduated from Odessa-Montour Central School in 1965; Bill and Nubby were married on July 2, 1966. Originally from Alpine, NY, Nubby and Bill resided in Owego, NY, and later moved to Lakeland in 2004. “Nubby”, derived from “nubbins” – a nickname given to her by her grandfather, was the name she preferred; appropriate as she never grew to be 5 feet. Nubby loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed listening to music, dancing and playing Euchre. Nubby had an incredible, creative ability to do all kinds of crafts from macrame, ceramics, painting, to her most recent endeavor - handmade greeting cards; she shared her talents through gifting these to family, friends, acquaintances, and even total strangers. Family hold many fond memories with “Mom” and “Mimi” and recently spoke of a few; Johven enjoyed Mimi teaching him acrylic-pour painting, Dave remembers the excitement of the Scavenger Gift Hunt; our Christmas morning tradition, and Tammy recalls happy times of uncontrolled laughter where all would laugh till they cried. Nubby was so proud of her daughter and son, and her grandson, Johven William, born on July 12, 2010; Johven was the “light of her life” in later years, and Mimi and Poppy always made him feel safe and loved. Nubby was also grateful for 58 years of marriage to a wonderful, devoted husband.
Preceded in death by her parents, William and Irma Johnson, in-laws, Leslie and Wilma Carlton, brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Carol Carlton, and nephew, Robbie Carlton. Survived by husband, William (Bill) Carlton, Sr., daughter, Tammy Carlton, son, William (Dave) Carlton, Jr., grandson, Johven William Carlton, brother and sister-in-law, John and Robin Johnson, brother-in-law, Larry Carlton, nephew and nieces, Brent Johnson, Sloan Johnson Lilyea, and Cyndilyn Carlton, and several cousins.
Nubby was loved and treasured by her family and friends, as well as by her Christian World Ministries Church family where she was known as “Sister Nubby” or “Mommy Nubby”. Nubby was a true blessing in this world, and she provided an overabundance of joy to all who were lucky enough to have known her. A Celebration of Life Ceremony to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider Memorial Donations to the American Kidney Fund www.kidneyfund.org or to a charity of your choice.
