Lucille "Lucy" Wheeler's Obituary
Lucille “Lucy” Wheeler, 84, passed away in Auburndale on Friday, December 15, 2023.
Lucy was born in Union City, Ohio to parents Joseph and Sara (Spencer) Smith on January 9, 1939. She married Jerry Wheeler in 1961 and the couple were loving parents to five children.
In 1980, Lucy and her family moved to Plantation, Florida, where they resided for many years and Lucy was a supervisor for the City of Plantation’s Utilities department. Upon retirement, Lucy relocated to Sebring, Florida and lived there until her passing.
Lucy was exceptionally good at everything she did and was very active in her community. She was president of the Garden Club, Treasurer for Friends of the Library, a member of Bunco and the Red Hat Society. She and Jerry were also members of the Rare Fruit & Vegetables Council.
Lucy enjoyed quilting, gardening, crafting, and painting. She was a wonderful cook and so creative and talented. Most of all, Lucy was an amazing mother.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jerry Wheeler; sons Matthew and Michael Wheeler; brothers Charles and Donald Smith; sister Joy Dennis; and grandson Dylan.
She is survived by daughters Kelly Buffenbarger, Wendy (Rick) Herlache, and Michelle (Michael Leccese) Kelley; brothers Bob Smith, Ronald (Florence) Smith, and Alan (Rebecca) Dock; sister Gloria (Willis) Hostetler; daughter in law Heidi Wheeler; son in law James Kelley; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 3:00-4:00 PM, followed by funeral service at 4:00 PM, at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Serenity Gardens Chapel.
