My deepest sorrow is in my heart for the family of my Uncle Louis. As his suffering is through in this world. It as always a sad day to not have such a wonderful man in our lives. This man who I had the good fortune to be his nephew. He was a reflection of how we should live our lives.
Uncle Louis was a clean living man. And all though we may feel as if it is never is long enough, he did live a good happy life. Loving husband, father, grandfather, and thank God my uncle.
There is a word for my Uncle. Unflappable. Another could be unique. The reason for this was his open heart. His wilingness to be original and funny is a great gift. Nobody that met him could say different. His abilty to make you smile was his pleasure. You may have thought this guy is crazy. He told me in one of our phone conversations. He liked it that way.
It is rare in these times that a person would just lay his demeaner out there. Many of us would fear ridicule. Not my Uncle Louis. He had an open heart regardless of how it was taken. One distinct memory of a moment we shared.
At my fathers passing. I had done well to hold it together. But before the service was to begin. I went to my old bedroom to be alone and try and fix my tie and compose myself. Dad had passed suddenly. Everybody was in shock. I was struggling to fix my tie and trying to be strong. Uncle Loius knocked on my old bedroom door and peeped in. Ricky are you ok in here? I said Yes sir just fighting this tie. He came in and started to fix my tie. He told me its a tough day. As he cried. I loved your daddy. But today I am proud of you and how your holding the family up. I said just barely. He gave me that beautiful full smile and said we are going to cry but then we are going to smile right? Yes sir. Then he gave me great big hug. He said your tie is straight your suit is great now smile. I did. He said there you go. Lets go take care of your daddy.
I will leave you with this word of advice that was given to me by this special man. Get up first thing find something to make you smile. Find something to make you laugh. Then spread it all over until you get a grin from somebody. Smile as often all day as you can. Bring smiles to folks they will smile back at you. Then let that make you just smile wider. If you try and do this all day you will be happy from the time you rise until you go to bed.
I try real hard to do this. Its a lesson we all can afford to learn. My prayers and blessings go to my Aunt Jeanette and the entire family. He will be forever in our hearts. And I shall never think about him and not have a smile come to my face and see his smile in my mind.
Bless you Uncle Louis God surely blessed you on earth and I am sure you have him smiling right now.
Love and prayers for him and each member of the family.
Love Ricky, Debbie, Ronnie, Nina, and his great neice Victoria Johnson.
