Loraine H. Hartney's Obituary
Loraine Natalie Hartney (née Harrington), age 96, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, in Mulberry, Florida. Born on April 10, 1929, in Oaklyn, New Jersey to Nathaniel and Anna Harrington, Loraine’s life was a beautiful journey marked by enduring love and quiet strength.
As a freshman at William Smith College, Loraine met John “Jack” Hartney during a French class at nearby Hobart College. That chance meeting blossomed into a lifelong partnership rooted in devotion and shared dreams. Together, they built a family grounded in warmth and respect.
Loraine was the beloved matriarch of a close-knit family spanning three generations. She is survived by her four children: Carol Huber, husband Ron; John (Kevin) Hartney, wife Colleen; Susan (Betsy) Rucker, husband Jeff; and Jeffrey Hartney, wife Natalie. Her legacy continues through twelve grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.
Among her most cherished memories were the joyful gatherings in the Adirondacks—times filled with laughter, storytelling, and deep connection. Those who knew her remember her gentle kindness and the grace with which she moved through life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Hartney.
A Memorial Service will be held on August 23, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes – Serenity Gardens Chapel, 3350 Mall Hill Drive. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Volunteers In Service To The Elderly (VISTE) at viste.org/ways-to-give-now
