LEROY J. SCHAFFER, 78
LAKELAND - Leroy J. Schaffer, 78, of Lakeland, passed away July 29, 2014 due to complications of Diabetes.
Leroy was born in South Bend, Indiana on August 12, 1935. He has been a resident of Lakeland since the mid 1980's, moving to Florida from Maryland following his retirement as a Nuclear Physicist for the United States Government.
Leroy was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served for over 20 years. He was a devout catholic and member of the Saint Joseph Church, and the Knights of Columbus Council 2505 in Lakeland.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Theresa; two stepsons David and Roger Browning; a brother Bruce Schaffer; three sisters Cecilia Beaulau, Mary Jane McGrath, and Daisy Ottman; several nieces and nephews, 14 step-grandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to the visitation on Monday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, 3350 Mall Hill Dr., Lakeland. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10:00am at Saint Joseph Church. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
