Lena Alexandria Harrison's Obituary
Lena Alexandria Harrison (104), of Auburndale, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning April 19, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born (Ilena Alexandria) in Crownland, St Elizabeth, Jamaica on September 2nd, 1921, daughter of the late Mabel Bernard and Harry Harrison. She completed her elementary education in Taunton, St Elizabeth where she lived until age 14 with her grandmother and siblings. In 1935, upon the death of her maternal grandmother Louisa Powell, she moved to Howell Content, Clarendon to reside with her mother and stepfather. There she attended sewing classes at Ms. Barrett in May Pen and acquired superb skills darning men’s coats and pants. Lena was regarded as one of the best dressmakers in Content and also taught many budding tailors how to sew men’s clothing. She also teamed up with her mother cooking and selling food to the workers at the sugar cane plantation in nearby Parnassus, Clarendon.
In the summer of 1985, Mama Lena migrated to the United States from Jamaica with the last of the 5 grandchildren she raised from birth to their teenage years. She spent a short period of time with her daughters in their respective homes in the United States before finally settling in Bloomfield, CT with her eldest daughter Cherry. There mama built some lasting, loving relationship while being a caretaker of children from family friends.
Affectionately known as Mama, Miss Lena, or Mama Lena to many, she was a member of the Content Church of God in Clarendon, Jamaica. Upon migrating to the United States, she became a member of the Rehoboth Church of God in Bloomfield CT and attended services with her grandson Gary. Upon moving to Florida in 2013, she regularly attended Life Church in Auburndale FL until Covid kept everyone homebound in 2020. Lena loved the Lord and expressed her thanks for the loving kindness and tender mercies he has bestowed upon her every minute of the day until she was no longer able to speak within the last few days of her life.
Lena is survived by 2 sisters Mary Ann Peterson (Bee) Jamaica, and Iris Campbell, London, England; 5 children: Doreen Morgan (aka Cherry), Carol Patrick (Sherridon), Leighton Morgan (Sheree), Varron Harrison (Sandra), and Janice Morgan (aka Bibsy); 16 grandchildren: Wayne (Minette), Gary (Carol), Norraye (Michael), Daedre, Mark (Raquel), Trevor, Kevin (Jasmine), Kimberly , Sheldon (Melissa), Leighton Jr (aka Leo),Claudia, Jermaine (Allison), Trevon (Lisette), Patrice, Jerell, Nkereuwem (aka Junior); 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and beloved friends. She was predeceased by her second child Norma Shanoami Morgan-Pennant, as well as 3 sisters Rezelda Williams-Muir, Imogene Louise Foster-Worms and Victoria Smith-Amihyia (aka Icy) and 3 brothers Selvin Daley, Eric Harrison and Gerald Beech.
On Sunday April 19,2026 she was carried home by her God a precious gift.
