Lamar Bailey Mathers' Obituary
Lamar Bailey Mathers, 93, passed away at his home on September 26, 2015. Lamar was born on April 19, 1922, in Lakeland Florida. He was the first of nine children born to Luticious and Mary Mathers. He was a World War II Army veteran and received the Bronze Star Medal. Lamar and his wife, Joyce, raised nine children and recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Lamar worked for the railroad for over 30 years and found time to also be a proud farmer. He loved to work and was a great family man. Lamar is preceded in death by his daughters, Pamela and Katrina. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; children, Stanley, Carolyn, Patricia, Theresa, David, Paula, and Wesley; sisters, Frances and Virginia; 30 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 5-7 pm at Winston Baptist Church, 3233 Old Tampa Hwy. A funeral service will also be held at the church on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 10 am. Interment to follow the service at Oak Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Winston Baptist Church Building Fund, 3233 Old Tampa Hwy., Lakeland, FL, 33803.
