JOSEPH W. THOMAS, 84
LAKELAND - Mr. Joseph W. Thomas passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017.
He was born in Palatka, Florida on April 20, 1933 and came to Lakeland more than 50 years ago. Joe was a graduate of Florida Southern College; past President of Polk County Chapter of the National Association of Accountants; served on the Board of Trustees of the Public Health Trust of Polk County and was a member of several Accounting and Tax Professional Associations. He worked in the Phosphate Industry for 30 years, retired and became an Enrolled Agent and operated his own business, Simplified Business Service for several years. Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Marcile Harrell Thomas; his son Joseph W. Thomas, Jr.; and brother in law, Jack Harrell. He is survived by his sister in law Carolyn Harrell; niece, Lucretia Shelnut and family, nephews, Stephen (Kim) Harrell and family and Mark (Vicki) Harrell and family; sister in law and brother in law, Joanne and Larry Houser.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 10:30 am at Socrum Cemetery, Lakeland, Florida. Condolences may be made to the family at gentry-morrison.com
