John Frederick Mills, Jr.
Lakeland – John Frederick Mills, Jr., 87, passed away June 21, 2015.
Fred was born in Mulberry, FL on Jan. 2, 1928 to the late John and Ruby Mills. After his completion of high school, Fred attended Auburn University. After leaving Auburn, he worked for International Mineral and Chemicals and later transferred to C.F. Industries where he worked until retirement. After retirement he enjoyed farming, raising blueberries, day lilies, and a variety of vegetables in Bushnell, FL.
Fred pulled his stint defending freedom in this world during the Korean Conflict when his Marine Reserve Unit was called to active service. In 1952 he married Marijean Wilder and moved to Lakeland, FL. In 1962, Fred joined the Lakeland Optimist Club. He was the Club’s Christmas Tree Chairman for over 20 years.
Fred is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marijean Mills; daughters, Mari Kaye Cunningham and Michele Tidwell; grandchildren, Blake and Matthew Cunningham, Kendal Tidwell Willis and Ryan Tidwell; 2 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted Fri. June 26th at 11 am at Gentry Morrison Southside Chapel, 1727 Bartow Rd., Lakeland.
