JOHN ROBERT 'BOB' HAWLEY, 91
LAKELAND - John Robert 'Bob' Hawley, 91, of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Camp Hill and Harrisburg, PA, passed away on December 22, 2014, at his Florida home. He was born on April 7, 1923, in Richmond, IN, the son of the late Herbert and Elizabeth (Huber) Hawley and was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Frances C. (Waldron) Hawley, a son, William, and his brothers, James and Thomas. He is survived by his sister, Helen Babb (Emerson), his brother Joseph (Patricia), James' wife Sonya, and five sons, Robert, Kenneth, Donald, Edward and Richard; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked for the PA. Railroad. After graduation from Dickinson College, he taught history and coached sports at McDevitt High School. He went on to a career in social work with county and state agencies and retired in 1986. During retirement in Lakeland, Bob was active in the community and St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He founded the senior softball league in Lakeland and played in that league for many years. Bob and his wife Fran enjoyed playing tennis and won many medals at the FL. State Senior Games. They competed in the national competition at Disney World where they made it to the semi-finals. Bob volunteered as a tennis coach at Sandpiper Residential Community which named their tennis courts in his honor after many years of service. Funeral services were held in PA. where he was buried alongside his wife. The family would like to thank our parents' many friends in the Sandpiper Development and the surrounding communities, for years of loyal friendship. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at the Sandpiper development clubhouse on January 15, 2015, from 11 AM till 1:30 PM.
