Jetsy Osborn Powell's Obituary
Jetsy Osborn Powell, 84, of Lakeland, FL, went to be with the Lord on October 25, 2025, peacefully at home surrounded by love.
Jetsy was born in Ashland, Ohio, on December 15, 1940, to Robert K. Baum and Lorene Fenton Baum. After graduating from Andrews Academy for Girls, she completed cosmetology school and later moved to Orlando, FL, where she began building her life and raising her family before eventually settling in Lakeland.
Jetsy was known for her incredible work ethic and strength. As a devoted mother of eight, she often juggled two or three jobs at a time to provide for her children. Throughout her life, she worked in factories, as a bartender, in sales, and as a “domestic engineer.” She also followed her entrepreneurial spirit by turning her favorite hobby of garage selling into a business with her Upscale Garage Sale Consignment Shop, which she proudly ran until retiring in 2012.
Jetsy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved exploring flea markets and yard sales, singing and dancing, and spending time with her dear friend Jeri playing Yahtzee.
She is survived by her six children: Greg Riley and wife Stephanie Riley, James “Todd” Riley, Fenton “Hank” Riley and wife Teresa Riley, her only daughter, Tarla Winner, Virgil “Bing” Osborn, and Loren Osborn and wife Teresa Osborn. She is also survived by Linda Riley, widow of her late son Tim Riley. Jetsy’s legacy continues through her 25 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish her love and strength.
She is also survived by her stepchildren: Larry Osborn and wife Jan Ross Osborn, Terry Osborn, Cynthia Osborn Clouse and husband Eric Clouse, Kim Osborn, and the late Virgil “Benny” Osborn II, as well as several step-grandchildren.
Jetsy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dick Powell, her sons Richard “Rick” Riley, Timothy “Tim” Riley and two granddaughters.
A graveside service will be held on November 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, 4620 US Hwy 98 S, Lakeland, FL 33812. Lunch will follow at Medulla Baptist Church, 3930 Old Rd. 37, Lakeland, FL 33813.
