James Ronald Mansfield's Obituary
JAMES RONALD MANSFIELD, 85 LAKELAND - James Ronald Mansfield, 85, passed away unexpectedly on June 16, 2015. Jim was born December 16, 1929, in Brilliant, OH to Clarence Edward Mansfield and Frances Zilpha Sinclair. On September 16, 1951, Jim married his beautiful high school sweetheart Barbara King at the New Alexandria Methodist Church. Jim graduated from Lincoln High School, Brilliant OH in 1947. After graduation, Jim served in the US Navy from 1949-1953. Later, Jim graduated from the University of Steubenville with a degree in accounting. For the bulk of his career, Jim worked as an accountant for Mobil Oil working both in Virginia and Florida, where he retired in 1987. He was an avid, and accomplished, tennis player who played (and often won) senior tournaments in Florida. He participated in the Florida Senior Games for 25 years! Aside from tennis, Jim had 2 other passions; he loved gardening and the Florida Gators. If Jim wasn't in his yard or on the tennis court, chances are he was in Gainesville cheering on the Gators.
Jim will always be remembered by his family as being a wonderful and loving son, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Jim is survived by his daughter, Rhonda (Jonathan) Weston; daughter in law, Beverly McKown Mansfield; grandchildren, Molly Weston, Chase (Lauren) Mansfield, Maggie (Ben) Hall and Leah (Lucas) Carmalt. He is also survived by his 5 great grandsons, Kevin, Benjamin, Caleb, Whit and Wells. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Mansfield; his parents, Clarence and Frances Mansfield; his brother, Norman Edward Mansfield; sister, Elizabeth Strang Vickers and beloved son, Norman Edward Mansfield. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First United Methodist Church, children's ministry and First Steps Preschool, 72 Lake Morton Dr, Lakeland, FL 33801.
