James "Jimmy" Luther Sherrouse's Obituary
James “Jimmy” Luther Sherrouse aka “Pop”went to be with the Lord peacefully on November 30, 2024 at 80 years old. He was surrounded by his family he loved so much. Jimmy was born on June 8, 1944, in Avon Park, Florida to Denver and Edith Sherrouse. He resided in the Lakeland/Kathleen area his entire life and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Jimmy was a family man and having his family around him brought him the most joy. His family was truly what he lived and worked so hard for, to give them a better life than he had. He loved his sweet wife of 60 years, his daughters, siblings, nieces and nephews immensely but he was especially fond of the grandchildren and great grands. He spent so much time with them, from using them as ranch hands, teaching them to fish, repairing or building fences, riding around the property on tractors, trucks, or his side by side, planting so much more than crops with them, taking them for icees, Checkers, spoiling them in the best ways, all the while teaching life lessons about hard work and family. He was “Pop” and he was the best anyone could ask for.
Jimmy dedicated much of his life to hard work and service. He worked different jobs through his life at Mine & Mill, McJunkin, and Publix where he retired after 20 years. His passion for farming and raising cattle was evident by how he loved his land where he lived for 51 years.
He had a love for gospel music. He was a lifelong Florida Gator fan, Pop spent every Saturday either at “The Swamp” or at home, cheering on his team surrounded by family. His love of the game was infectious, and he loved traveling around the SEC in his motor home, creating memories with family and friends.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Denver and Edith Sherrouse, his brothers, Larry and Chip Sherrouse, his sisters, Carolyn Wade and Darlene McNey. He is survived by his loving, care-giving wife Joan, his 2 daughters, Lisa (Lenny) Williams, Missy (James) Houston, his grandchildren; Colby (Becki), Maegan, Dustin (Megan), Destiny (Joe), Faith (Tyler), his great grandchildren; Kody, Kolton, Ryleigh, Emmalyn, Lilyann, Chloe, and Adaline, as well as nieces, nephews, adopted grandchildren, numerous family members and friends. His legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be missed tremendously but he is now at rest with Jesus.
There will be a service to celebrate his life on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at
