Jack Sinclair Upton's Obituary
LAKELAND-Mr. Jack Sinclair Upton of Lakeland, FL passed away peacefully on February 3, 2016. Mr. Upton was born in Salisbury, NC on July 20, 1922. He married the love of his life, Barbara, in 1942 and entered the Army Air Force shortly after. He served in World War II as a B-17 pilot in North Africa and Italy. He worked as a machinist for the Southern Railway at the Spencer, NC shops for more than 20 years. After a move to Florida in 1960, he became the Maintenance Supervisor for CF Industries in Bartow and enjoyed working there for over 20 years. Once retired, he and Barbara spent many years traveling across America in their RV and spending summers at their cabin in the mountains of North Carolina.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, John Samuel Upton; his mother, Cora Miller Upton; as well as his beloved wife, Barbara Davis Upton; and a son, Jack Sinclair Upton, Jr. He is survived by his son, John Burroughs Upton (Jo Ellen); 2 grandchildren, Diana Wheeler (Jason) and Sam Upton; and 1 great grandchild, Olivia.
A visitation will be Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 2-3 PM at the Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home (3350 Mall Hill Drive). Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM. Interment will be at Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury, NC under the direction of Summersett Funeral Home.
