Smith Grove Caretaking
Jack R. Smith, 83, a lifelong resident of Lakeland, passed away Feb. 28, following a long illness.
Jack was born in Lakeland, and graduated from Kathleen High School. He then served in the US Army in Korea, after which he spent 15 years in the reserves. After discharge, he went to work as a caretaker in the family business, Smith Grove Caretaking for over 40 years. He was active in sports in high school, and as an adult, played in both the City League and the Church League in softball. His passion was restoring old cars, and his gardens at home where he grew peanuts. He was a member of New Home Baptist Church, Polk Co. Mustang Club, and the Lakeland Cruisers.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara “Bootsie”; his sons Ronald and Steven (Eunice); a sister Frances Hogge; a grandson Chris, a great granddaughter Emily, 2 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services at New Home Baptist Church on Saturday, March 7 at 11:00 am. A visitation will be from 10 – 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to New Home Baptist Church, 901 N. Galloway Rd., Lakeland, FL 33810
