Horace "Bud" Richey's Obituary
Horace Frederick “Bud” Richey, age 86, of Lakeland, FL and formerly of Upper Sandusky, OH went to join his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 16th, 2024. Bud courageously fought lung cancer and COPD for over 12 years. He was born in Dayton, OH on February 8th, 1938, and was the son of Horace Vernon and Frieda Marie (Feller) Richey. Bud is survived by his previous wife Charlotte, and they share 5 children. In 1982 Bud married his wife Sharon and they shared more than 42 years together. She survives in Lakeland.
Mr. Richey is also survived by his children in Ohio; Troy, (Pam) of Upper Sandusky, Ross of Celina, Derk of Pataskala, Dawn (Keith) Newell of Forest, and Risa Rowe of Bucyrus. He is also survived by his brothers Herb, Frank, and sister Christine, as well as ten grandchildren: Cale (Kim), Clay (Korrin), Clint (Lauren), and Cayla Richey, Caitlin (Josh) Harper, Ryan Richey, Drew Book, Cara Hill, Tiffany Buhler, and Tyler Newell. Bud is also survived by 21 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Helen, and siblings Marilou, Carl, Janice, Andrew, and Thomas.
Bud loved the outdoors and was an avid bass fisherman. In his earlier years he enjoyed communicating with others via the ham radio network and was a licensed operator. Bud had learned to fly and earned his private pilot's license while in Upper Sandusky. Bud was also a loyal Ohio State football fan.
Mr. Richey started his 50 plus year career as a lineman at Dayton Power & Light and Celina Utilities, later becoming an independent licensed electrician. He was well respected by many loyal customers for being honest, fair, and helping those in need even if it meant he did the work for free.
Per Bud’s request, he will be cremated and there will be no public visitation services. At a time to be determined, a private, graveside family gathering will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
