Harriet Ann Burket's Obituary
Harriet Ann Burket (nee Doppler), 89, passed away on December 25, 2025, in Lakeland. She was born on May 24, 1936, to Avis (nee Tuggle) and Harry Doppler. Harry was a mining engineer and the family moved through the silver-rich mining towns of Utah, eventually settling in Heber City, where Harriet graduated high school.
She met her future husband, John Burket, at Denver University, and after graduating moved with him to the suburbs of Philadelphia in 1958, where they raised two children. John predeceased Harriet in 1980. She is survived by her son, David (Yasmin), and daughter, Cheyenne Nimes.
In the 1990s, Harriet retired to the community of Highland Fairways, in Lakeland, with her partner Bill Gray. From there they enjoyed many years of travel, and Bill worked on his golf and tennis skills. Harriet was an early and enthusiastic adopter of personal computers in the 1980s, going “online” before many others of her generation understood the term. She later put these skills to work helping various Highland Fairways clubs design their newsletters. Even into her 80s she was an avid videogamer on her iPad, which was perpetually at her side.
After Bill’s passing, in 2023, Harriet’s engagement with the world dramatically lessened. The family particularly extends its heartfelt thanks to neighbors in Highland Fairways whose support in Harriet’s final years was so crucial.
As per her wishes, no services will be held.
