Gwendolyn Black's Obituary
Gwendolyn K. Black, also known as Gwen or Nana to many, passed away on Tuesday, January 25 2022. Gwen was born on March 26, 1948 in West Palm Beach and lived in Pahokee, before moving to Lakeland as a child with her siblings Mryna, Marilyn, Buddy and Jerry. Gwen is proceeded in death by her siblings Buddy Herndon and Marilyn Williams, and Grandson Camdyn Black.
After graduating from Lakeland High School she married Richard Black and gave birth to a daughter Christy, and son Richie, who went on to bless her with 5 grandchildren: Brittany, Nick, Taylor, Jayden, Allyson, and 7 great -grandchildren: Sky, Maverick, Keegan, Kollin, Zoey, Zaine and Finn who she adored.
Gwen worked for twenty years at Christ Memorial Baptist Church as their beloved secretary, then moved into a career as a successful real estate assistant for twenty-five years, she was “Secretary of the Year in 2007” before retiring, allowing her time to spend on things that mattered most. In her spare time Gwen was known to have spoiled her pups (some would have said she loved them more than her own kids!), lounge on the beach or spending quality time with her many grand and great grandchildren.
Some of her favorite things were her trusty pair of crocs, having several slices of pizza, BBQ ribs and popcorn. She was known for her dislike of frogs and known very well for her favorite color, teal. Gwen was a proud member of Victory Church for the last 10 years.
“She touched many lives and will be missed greatly by every last one of them.”
Gwen will enter to her final rest at MT. Tabor Cemetery, after her Celebration of Life at Gentry Morrison Northside on Friday, February 4, 2022.
