Gregory A. Badgerow's Obituary
Gregory A. Badgerow, 66, died on May 2, 2016 from a long illness and after only one year of retirement. He was born in IL in 1949 and moved to St Petersburg, FL in 1958, and later Lakeland in 1990. He was a graduate of Dixie Hollins High School in St Petersburg and USF in Tampa. He was a Chairman of the Elders of his family church in St. Petersburg and a Sunday School teacher. His career in the Life Insurance Industry lasted 48 years. His professional designations included CLU (Charter Life Underwriter), ChFC (Charter Financial Consultant) and LUTCF (Life Underwriter Training Counsel Fellow) and CIC (Certified Insurance Consultant). He was an Agency Manager for Liberty National Life and well as managers for Allstate and Horace Mann Insurance Companies. He later owned his own agencies in Lakeland and Bartow. At Horace Mann he worked with teachers in the school system providing insurance and financial needs for educators. Greg served on the school advisory committee for Mulberry High and Dixieland Elementary Schools. He was the past president of the Imperial Chapter of the Florida Association of Insurance and Financial Consultants as well as past president of the Polk Co. Chapter of the Estate Planning Counsel and past president Polk County Chapter of Society of CLU/ChFC. He was an advocate for Donors Choose, a reader for the “Men Read” program, a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and a supporter of the ISO and the Polk Museum. Greg loved to fish, kayak, off road bike, ski, build with wood and travel (32 countries). He was a businessman of integrity, a hard worker and always was seen in a suit, white shirt and tie. Greg is survived by his wife Sharon, his son Dr. Justin Badgerow and grandchildren Elise and Spencer of PA. Also surviving are his sister Pamela (Normer) Adams, one niece and two nephews, all of Atlanta.
A service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Lake Hollingsworth on Tuesday, May 10th at 4 PM. Donations may be made in his honor to Habitat for Humanity of Lakeland or Donors Choose c/o Joe Fisher, Horace Mann Ins. Agent.
